CIMMYT's eastern Africa product pipeline 1B (EA-PP1B) focuses on developing high-yielding, early maturing maize varieties with white grain, drought tolerance, NUE, and resistance to GLS, TLB, MSV, and ear rots, that are suitable for food use in tropical, rainfed, dry, mid-altitude areas in eastern Africa and similar agroecologies.    General Information
  Adaptation/Agroecological zone 1000 - 1600 masl
Type of product Three-way cross hybrid
  Year first announced 2019

  Grain Characteristics
  Grain color White
      Grain texture Dent
Grain Yield
Grain yield under optimum conditions 7.8 t/ha   Biotic Stress Performance
Grain yield under high density 7.8 t/ha   Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) (1-9) 3.6
Grain yield under drought stress 6.4 t/ha   Grey leaf spot (GLS) (1-9) 1.8
Grain yield under low N stress 4.2 t/ha   Common Rust (1-9) 1.6
Grain yield under MLN art. inoc. 0.3 t/ha   FAW leaf damage  (1-9) 5.3

Agronomic Characteristics   Grain weight loss (MW) 0.2%
Maturity 136 DAP   Grain weight loss (LGB) 0.2%
Plant height 222.5 cm   Ear rots 3.5%
Ear height 98.7 cm   Diseases were originally scored on a 1-5 scale but have been converted here to a 1-9 scale, where 1 = Highly resistant; 5 = Tolerant; 9 = Highly susceptible.
Bad husk cover 6.7%
Root lodging 0.9%
Stalk lodging 1.0%   Seed Production Characteristics
Anther-silking interval 1 day   Female seed yield  6.0 t/ha
Ear aspect (1-5) 2.4   Male seed yield 2.7 t/ha
Plant aspect (1-5) 2.3   Nicking 1 day
Plant and ear aspects are scored on 1-5 scale, where 1 = desirable and 5 = undesirable characteristics
