CKDHH170021

CIMMYT's eastern Africa product pipeline 1A (EA-PP1A) focuses on developing intermediate maturing, white grain, high-yielding maize hybrids that are drought tolerant, resistant to GLS, TLB, and MSV, and are suitable for food use in tropical rainfed dry/wet mid-altitude areas in eastern Africa.    General Information
  Adaptation/Agroecological zone 1000 - 1600 masl
Type of product Three-way cross hybrid
  Year first announced 2018

  Grain Characteristics
      Grain color White
Grain Yield   Grain texture Flint
Grain yield under optimum conditions 6.7 t/ha
Grain yield under random stress 3.2 t/ha   Biotic Stress Performance
Grain yield under drought stress 1.5 t/ha   Turcicum leaf blight (TLB) (1-9) 3.4
Grey leaf spot (GLS) (1-9) 2.2
Agronomic Characteristics   Maize streak virus (MSV) (1-9) 1.6
Maturity 139 DAP   Common rust (1-9) 3.0
Plant height 232.5 cm   Diseases were originally scored on a 1-5 scale but have been converted here to a 1-9 scale, where 1 = Highly resistant; 5 = Tolerant; 9 = Highly susceptible.
Bad husk cover 4.5%
Root lodging 1.7%
Stalk lodging 13.5%
Anther-silking interval 0.6 Days   Seed Production Characteristics
Ear aspect (1-5) 2.4   Nicking -3.9 Days
Plant aspect (1-5) 2.8
Plant and ear aspects are scored on 1-5 scale, where 1 = desirable and 5 = undesirable characteristics   Comments
Product information is based on data from various trials conducted by CIMMYT in eastern Africa in 2017.
